Hollywood Horror Night at the Villa Sinclair in Hollywood, Florida

The Palm Beach Film Society is pleased to announce a special event on October 20, 2012 at 7:30 PM, the ‘Hollywood Horror Night at the Villa Sinclair,’ in Hollywood, Florida! This is a free event featuring short horror films, produced by local filmmakers in South Florida.

Featured short films (under 10 minutes) include the tale of an evil elevator in Hellevator, the last interrogation with a killer who is fond of flesh in Skinner; a murderous Ken Doll with jealousy issues in The Breakup; a first date which goes horrifically wrong in I Was Made for Lovin’ You.

Again, this is a free event, and here’s the information:

Final Cut Pro X Workshop In Boca April 26 At 6 PM

Hey everyone, I’m proud to announce that the Palm Beach Film Society and the Palm Beach County Filmmakers, are presenting an introduction to Final Cut Pro X, with FCP X certified instructor Jeff Fortune. FCP X is a revolutionary new edit system from Apple, and it’s amazing. I’ve been using it exclusively for a while now, especially with recent updates. This is our first non-Voices of Local Film event! It will take place on April 26, 2012, from 6 PM to 9 PM at America’s Production Company in Boca Raton, FL. The address is 95 NW 11th St., Boca Raton, FL 33432, and directions can be found here. Talina Adamo Oblander of the PBC Filmmakers has a Meetup with all the information, or check out this Facebook page. The cost is $15 for members of the PBC Filmmakers, $20 for non-members. Make sure you head to the Meetup page to RSVP! We’re planning on having more workshops, including a few with the latest digital film cameras.

A look at Final Cut Pro X from both the practical and technical. We will discuss the differences in workflow from 7 to X. By dissecting some projects done in X, redone in X, or opened in X from 7, we will will learn about different the workflows that are utilized using Final Cut Pro X. From an overview of the software to specific step by steps, and of course tips and tricks . . . . a contemporary  understanding of Final Cut Pro X will be delivered.

About Jeff Fortune, Final Cut Pro X certified instructor: “I’ve  been in video production for almost 30 years, my experience is split between doing and teaching. I’ve been teaching FCP since 2007, Apple certified since 2008. Currently certified in both Final Cut Pro 7 & X. As an editor, I work primarily in a freelance capacity, but also have ongoing clients. In many cases I develop workflows for my clients, and then fill many of the aspects of the editor role myself.”

Movies Announced For The 2012 Voices Of Local Film

The Palm Beach Film Society is pleased to announced the movies for the 2012 Voices of Local Film at the Palm Beach International Film Festival. The event will take place during the PBIFF on April 15, 2012, 8 PM, at the Cultural Arts Center in Boca Raton (201 Plaza Real, Boca Raton, FL 33432). You can purchase tickets here. The films, in no particular order:

The Single Girl’s Guide to Travel in Paris, directed by Dawn Dubriel. Join host Dawn Dubriel on a Tour de Paris, the city of love. Take a riverboat cruise down the Seine river, smell the frankincense and see the magical stained windows in the Gothic Notre Dame cathedral. Climb to the top of the Eiffel Tower then head on the metro to Montemarte to bask in Paris’ local artists’ ambiance.

Let Yourself Be Heard, directed by Talina Adamo. Plot: A young couple worries how their other half will react if they passed gas in front of each other. To find out if it true love, they must let themselves be heard.

Changing Seasons, song by Lucas Feigenbaum, directed by Bruce Feigenbaum. Plot: Music video highlighting the beauty of South Florida.

Opportunist, directed by Phillip Wong-Kuon. Plot: An inexperienced thief, Wayne, breaks into a Boca Raton townhouse and is caught by an older man, Marvin, the owner of the home.

Crazy House, directed by Robert Goodrich. Plot: Three deadbeats, struggling to survive a miserable Minneaoplis winter and the faceless oppression of The Man, consider selling their vital organs for a taste of financial freedom and the promise of unlimited painkillers.

2012 Voices of Local Films Call For Submissions!

Hey everyone, it’s time to get ready for the 2012 Voices of Local Film at the Palm Beach International Film Festival, presented by the Palm Beach Film Society. The 2011 Voices was a great success, carrying on the tradition of past events, and it’s the 10th Voices event! That’s right! We started Voices in 2003 with our first annual event, and 2012 marks the 10th Voices of Local Film.

We’ll have details on how we’ll be celebrating, but for now, it’s time to submit your local films, produced in South Florida and the Treasure Coast, for a chance to make it into the 2012 Voices of Local Film at the Palm Beach International Film Festival. Click here to download the submission guide, which I updated to clear up that we don’t need mini-dv tapes. You’ll need the free Adobe Reader app to view the PDF.
